A Witch on the Run—My First Public Build

When I first started this project, I knew one thing very clearly:
I didn’t want to make another typical “bullet hell / shooter” game.
You know the kind — flying around, dodging endlessly, enemies getting faster and more numerous until failure feels inevitable. No matter how well you play, the end is always the same. And honestly, that kind of experience never really stuck with me.
At the same time, I had this loose idea of making a game about a witch. Something magical, a bit tragic, and very personal. Naturally, it started as a witch fighting enemies — but that immediately raised a question I couldn’t ignore:
Why is this witch flying around and fighting?
If I wanted the gameplay to matter, the story had to make sense too.
That question is what pushed me to build the world around the game.
Once I committed to giving the game a narrative foundation, the design started to change. Instead of treating enemies as interchangeable obstacles, I began designing different enemy types with distinct behaviors — charging knights, distant archers, fire-breathing enemies — each meant to break the monotony that shooters often fall into.
Another thing that always bothered me about this genre is how it almost guarantees failure. Endless modes are exciting, but they also tell players: you will lose eventually. That felt frustrating, even unfair.
So alongside an endless mode, I added a dual-ending structure. I wanted to give players something more than just survival — a sense that their actions and choices could actually lead somewhere.
Hi! I’m Lily — and yes, I’m also the entire team behind this game.
And just like my other projects — this is a true solo effort.
Design, programming, art, animation, writing, music, sound effects… and somehow marketing too.
(It turns out one-person studios don’t get weekends.)
I’ve been building and polishing this little world for a while now.
This release is just the beginning — but I’m really excited to finally let people play it.
If you try it and have thoughts, I’d love to hear them.
A comment or feedback helps this tiny witch (and this tiny studio) more than you might think ✨
